Superfoods for Smoothies

Smoothies are one of the most nutrient dense meals you can make, but you can boost their nutrients even more with superfoods and protein powders.  Here are our favorites that we have tried and found to be awesome:

Protein Powders

While we have used many different protein powders on the market, very few of them are all raw and organic.  The other important thing you want to be aware of is that many use whey or soy, which are not very good for you.  Rice protein is another commonly used protein, but most of it comes from China and is potentially contaminated with heavy metals.  That is not something you want in your smoothie!  So, this one from Green Smoothie Girl and Sunwarrior meet our requirements AND taste good too!

Green Powders

Raw Chocolate Powder or Cacao

SunFood-Chocolate-Cacao-Powder-Organic-803813035029Raw chocolate powder in a smoothie is divine, but you can't use the chocolate powder that is sold in grocery stores for baking.  First of all, it's not raw and secondly, it is very bitter!  Raw chocolate, called Cacao, is what you want. 

This brand is really wonderful.  Just a tablespoon or so per smoothie and it turns into a decadent dessert with tons of antioxidants from the cacao bean.  It can also be used for raw food desserts!
